Happiness is the light that brightens the gaps between moments
Let’s connect the dots.
If you know anyone who is young, handsome, rich and esteemed, and you want to know, further, if he is happy, ask, Is he cheerful and genial? — and if he is, what does it matter whether he is young or old, straight or humpbacked, poor or rich? — he is happy.
Arthur Schopenhauer (Wisdom of Life)
He is happy, nothing else, nothing external, only within, and he is just delighted by himself only.
But you introduced gaps above, Sumit.
How can I fill them with happiness? You ask
Yeah, as I said in the last digest, true happiness comes from within, it must come from within. But the question comes now,
How can I be happy by myself? How can I fill the gaps?
—> By feeling good, feeling good about yourself.
Feeling good about yourself
Feeling good about yourself is like getting that reward which is already inside you.
Nice, but still I didn't get my answer—How can I fill the gaps?
Wait! I am coming into it. You lack the most crucial thing in your life.
What do I lack the most?
You lack 'patience,’ my friend.
It's okay if you're in a hurry to get the information in your hand. But let me tell you one thing, the longer you wait for happiness, the more you'll be filled with.
The choice is yours, my friend, Do you want more or you'll be happy with less?
If you want more, then have some patience and read further.
How can you feel good about yourself?
By challenging yourself every day, you'll feel good about yourself. Doing something challenging every day might give you the happiness you ever wanted.
Challenging yourself will make you feel good about yourself.
How can you challenge yourself every day?
Now, let’s be serious and read attentively, I will discuss 3 things here, and they will be the key terms for the happiness equation you’re impatiently waiting for.
You guys can do these 3 things every day to challenge yourself:
Learning something new
Applying what you learned (challenging)
Sharing what you learned and experienced
Learning something new
The initial step to learning something new is reading a book, a blog, or articles you like. Next, come videos—not binge-watching movies or shows, but binge-watching something inspirational, from where you can learn something new and apply it to your life.
You can learn from people by having the right conversations with the right people. The generation is degrading the value of learning from people by sticking to their phones, watching videos, and chatting.
We forget that our ancestors didn’t have smartphones like us; they used to spend time talking to people and learning from each other. I believe they were the best learners because they were learning LIVE. Like you watch podcasts, two people talking to each other. You can do this as well. No, you don’t need to launch a podcast, you just need to take this challenge I’ve made for you.
Challenge 1:
Let’s skip the reading and binge videos part because you already do those things. Okay, if you don’t read, I bet you binge-watch videos. Let’s come up to the last one.
Learn from people: Talk to 1 stranger every day, go and approach them first, ask curiously, and listen carefully. Do this for at least 7 days, and then you’ll feel like, I want to do it more.
Talking to strangers is the best thing you can do daily for your well-being.
Try this challenge and take the first step to feel good about yourself.
Now, let’s move to the second thing.
Applying what you learned (challenging)
If you’re learning by reading books or by talking to people but not applying them in your life, then forget about being happy or feeling good, you’ll feel worse than anything, and you’ll be miserable in the long term.
I love reading as always, I used to read and read and read and became addicted to it many times. But still, I never felt good or something nice in me. I thought I was not feeling good because I was reading imperfectly, but the main reason was I was not applying a single thing of what I was reading or learning.
So, I challenged myself; yes, I challenged myself, and I am challenging you too to complete it. Can you complete the challenge? Of course, you can, let’s do this.
Challenge 2:
I challenged myself that if I am learning or reading something today, then I have to apply what I learned on that day only, even if it is too small.
With this, here is the challenge,
Apply small: Apply the bare minimum of what you learnt today. It can be challenging yourself to drink 8 glasses of water or talking to a stranger like the above. Whatever you learn here can also be applied. Take that small step you think you can complete. Accept the challenge and complete it.
Finally, let’s move to the third thing.
Sharing what you learned and experienced
Sharing is caring, and if you don’t want to care, don’t share. But remember, sharing your learning is a benefit for you. It comes under external happiness because of likes and comments and it will make you happy (seeing big numbers makes you happy) but it gives happiness within, that stays if you have control. When talking about the benefits of sharing, here are a few I know of:
Understand Better: Explaining what you learn helps you understand it more deeply.
Remember More: Talking about what you’ve learned helps you remember it longer.
Boost Confidence: Sharing knowledge makes you feel more confident and sure of yourself.
Build Relationships: Sharing what you know brings you closer to others and helps build strong connections.
Add Value: By sharing, you help others learn too, making you more valuable to those around you.
These above benefits are the reasons I share my thing with you all.
Without wasting any more time, let's move to the challenge.
Challenge 3:
I have an interesting idea to start sharing right away, here's how:
By writing about yourself first. We all love talking about ourselves, so why not share it once, it can be a video, it can be a written post or it also can be a conversation with a friend. I am throwing this challenge to you.
Start with yourself: Have that gut and talk about yourself today, either online or in person. Simple steps to start right now:
• Take a piece of paper and start writing a letter to yourself
• Write the subject (topic) and body (what you learnt and applied)
• Share the letter online or tell the body of the letter to a friend
The happiness equation
I already disclosed the equation for being happy. Now, I have to align and format it well.
So here's the formula:
Happiness = Learning + Applying + Sharing
—> Read and learn something new
—> Apply what you learnt
—> Share what you learnt and applied
Remember, everyone sees happiness with different eyes, some might work for you and some not.
Keep honing your happiness.
